Sound Zal is an easy-to-use program that allows you to record audio from the stereo mix, microphone, or line-in inputs of the sound card. The advantage of selecting the stereo mix is that you can record several inputs at the same time, e.g., you can record audio from the microphone or line-in while playing music on an audio player, MIDI compositions, etc.
The output files are saved in WAV format, but you can select among different codecs and sample rates. Besides, you can add echo, phase shift, amplifier, and equalizer effects. The echo effect allows you to change the length and amplification level. The phase shift allows you to adjust different parameters: dry, wet, feedback, sweep rate, sweep range, and frequency. The equalizer has seven frequency bands and the amplifier has a range from -12dB to 12dB.
To start recording you just need to select the input source, add an effect, and specify the output format. While you are recording, you can observe the audio level from each channel. The only disadvantage I found when using the program is that its window cannot be brought to the front if other windows are open.
